The URSA 4k v1 Digital Cinema Camera having PL Mount from Black magic design features a form factor which is designed to make it flexible to use on all sizes of productions. From a one single operator all the way up to a complete camera crew. On the heart of an imaging system, URSA 4K features a 3840 x 2160pixels resolution, global shutter CMOS sensor having 12 stops of dynamic range. The camera records and results in the 2160 pixels format, 16:9 standard with exactly 4 times the 1080 pixels of resolution, often refer to as Ultra HD.
URSA records in two formats. The first format is 12-bit Cinema DNG RAW; a compressed RAW codec with no quality loss is design to offer you the best latitude for image process in post production. The second format is Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), a debayered codec for simpler editing a wide range of applications used to edit videos and playback. They also need less space for storage extra recording times. Video is recorded in CFast 2.0 memory cards and camera features 2 slots which enable you to hot swap media files regularly, unstopped recording.
URSA has a 10.1inches LCD screen having 1080p resolution flip-out so that you don’t necessarily need an on-camera monitor. In addition to this, there are two touch screens with 5” sizes, on each side of the body. This enables you to reach the menu system and can show data such as audio waveforms and time code.
So you can color correct and edit your footage, especially shot in cinema DNG RAW format, URSA provides DaVinci Resolve software dongle for Windows and OS X.
Supports Diverse User Groups
From single camera operator to full-scale productions, when use on jobs with big crew, you can simply dress the camera using top quality follow focus, cinema lenses, matte box, rods and more. If you are single shooting person then large fold out on-set monitor, internal recorder and built-in scopes means you don’t want any extra on-set equipment because these all things are built-in one camera.
Design by Department
All the areas of the camera have been divided into separate camera operator, audio engineer work stations and camera assistant. The operator stations of the camera have separate 5” screen. The purpose of the screen is to set on set monitor, camera status and scopes. The camera assist station includes a camera status, scopes and separate screen for camera settings. Ultimately, the audio station includes audio connections, controls and audio meters.
Professional Design and Aluminum Construction
URSA includes an active system for cooling with very less noise fan that allows it to attain high frame rates for long time while keeping chassis cool. The aluminum machined design is built to incredibly strong and has been constructed with the possibility that it will be handling by lot of people in mind.
Super 35-Sized Global Shutter CMOS Sensor
The 4000p of resolution sensor uses a global shutter so that it will not be with flash banding experienced and motion artifacts with rolling shutter sensors. It includes a 12 stop dynamic wide range to make sure detail is preserved even in the highlight parts of the image and shadow and to provide even more information to work within the color correction. It is possible with sensor size to again create the shallow depth of field look popularly linked with film. At this size it is a bit larger than the APS-C DSLR format and will contain most lenses which covers APS-C image circle.
Dual CFast 2.0 Card Slots
With 2 cards slots, it’s possible to maintain recording indefinitely. Just switch to a fresh card in the second slot and then remote the first one to offload to a storage device or computer. It is possible to record at high bitrates by using CFast 2.0 media demanded by RAW capture without dropping frames.
Built-In Scopes
URSA includes audio levels, focus and scopes for exposure. And there is a screen which is dedicated for camera assistants so they can easily update and check camera parameters of the camera operator independently.
Field Upgradable Sensor
The URSA features a modular camera turret which can be removed by removing four bolts. The camera turret features lens mount, lens control connections and sensor and can be upgraded in future when new sensors will be developed.
Broadcast Connections
When you have standard BNC connectors it means you don’t have to worry about proprietary cabling or custom solutions. URSA includes a 12G-SDI output which can be converted to HD or used directly for full ultra HD 4000p quality. There is also a 12G-SDI input which can display return video on 10inches LCD when working with external video sources or covering live events. A separate SDI input which outputs 1080 pixels of resolution only is available for attaching monitors and EVFs. There are 2 LR inputs for audio with +48 V phantom powers. You also receive time code in and out which helps syncing with other separate audio recorders or cameras.
LANC Port
A LANC is granted on a 2.5mm mini connector. It allows us to control record Stop/Start, focus and iris.
Supports Standard Battery Plates
Your selection of V-Mount or Gold Mount battery plates can be connected directly to back of the camera. Instead, 4-pin XLR input is accessible so you can use DC power source or other power supply. The URSA also includes a 4-pin XLR power output so you can power a camera mounted 12V accessory without involving an extra battery.
Lots of Mounting Points
Top of camera includes number of 3/8”-16 tapped holes so you can connect mounting accessories and articulating arms. There are also 20 holes of size 1/4inches along the top of the handle which can be separated. Moreover, there is a mount of 15mm LWS-spaced rods which are on the base of camera. You can add accessories such as matte box and follow focus after adding a pair of 15mm standard rods. A V-lock delta interface enables the camera to be connected to tripods by using an ENG-style rapid release system like VCT-14.
