Underwater photography is a very interesting aspect of photography. You won’t find many underwater photographers these days and it’s almost become a specialised niche in itself. It’s not every day that people go underwater and take pictures of the wildlife that exists there. There are so many different types of wildlife underwater such as living mammals like fish and sharks, and the non-moving ones such as coral. In some countries it’s even become a huge hobby for many people because of the different types of wildlife that you can find.
There’s now a lot of digital equipment available in the market today which can be used for underwater cameras. You will even find pictures everywhere on the internet which shows you just how popular it has become. Even after being in the business for many years now, I am amazed at some of the pictures that have been taken, and I often think just how that was possible.
However, there’s a slight problem with some of these pictures that you see on the internet, they often give the impression that you can just take your camera and go underwater and take a picture, and it’s that simple. Although we all wish that were true, unfortunately it isn’t. The qualities of some of these pictures are so poor and almost impossible to see anything because of the blurring that takes place. The key is knowing where, when and how to take the pictures, even the sunlight has a direct impact on how your picture will turn out, especially if it’s taken in the direct path of the sun, as water amplifies light.
Some pictures taken underwater can really turn out beautiful if it’s taken the right way. There’s a lot of different equipment that comes with underwater photography. For example, there are many different types of cameras, holders, and lights that would need to be bought in order to take as near perfect picture as possible.
Taking pictures in the ocean is probably the first step to taking great pictures, lakes and ponds can be much too dark and dirty with a lot of dirt and debris, and makes it almost impossible to see anything under water. In the ocean however, there are many vast open spaces which are so clear you can see up to five feet when looking downwards, and since there is no pollution or much debris you should have a trouble free time taking your perfect picture.
Some camera’s on the market today are designed differently, and are designed specifically for under water usage and deep sea diving. These kind of pictures really can be remarkable in quality and scenic views, because they are usually a few hundred feet underwater where not a lot of pictures come from in the first place. Some of the photos available today show some really strange things that no one has ever seen before.
Other than the obvious life forms that live in water, it’s also a lot of fun to take pictures of people underwater. Underwater expressions can be really funny if the right moment is captured.
Many people take pictures of their children and each other under water while they are vacation. In Florida for example, many people take pictures of themselves with wildlife such as stingrays and other species in their natural habitat. Taking real life underwater pictures is a great keepsake for the entire family and to share with family and friends as well.
Water is unpredictable and that is what makes underwater photography so great. The underwater effect makes everything unpredictable which when taken correctly and in the perfect position makes pictures that were not expected or even possible.
Underwater photography will continue to change as the cameras in today’s world continue to evolve and become more advanced. If you didn’t know, the next time you go on holiday you can even take pictures underwater whilst you’re still on the boat, amazing isn’t it?
